The Young Turks Discuss Awful Cruelty to Chicks

by: Curtis Abbey

Tue Sep 08, 2009 at 22:42:20 PM PDT

Warning this is pretty graphic.

I'm with Cenk on this 100%. We have to vote with our dollars but I'm not about to go vegan. More veggies yes, all veggies no.

There are difficult things that need to be done for our meat production, but we gotta find a better way than this grinder. They can't sex the chickens before they hatch?

Foie Gras: Intense Animal Cruelty, Pure and Simple

by: Asinus Asinum Fricat

Tue Apr 07, 2009 at 12:11:47 PM PDT

A couple of days ago Jill Richardson AKA OrangeClouds115 wrote a piece about foie gras here and it got me mad. Mad because the same spurious story about "humane force-feeding" made the rounds again, this time ensnaring a few progressives with the meme that it is done "naturally". Whichever way you look at it, the simple act of force-feeding a duck or a goose is acute cruelty dispensed so that well-healed gastronomes can add some extra fat to their asses and flirt with Alzheimer's at the same time (see the link below the jump). Grrrrr...

I know I'm preaching to the choir here but I have to vent my anger here about this continuing practice, and the fact that so many so-called humane superstar chefs still peddle this atrocity on their bills of fare. Sure, the profit speaks for itself but there are many other ways to make a decent living without harming sentient beings.

My son's school wants me to buy Tyson foods

cross-posted at the EENR progressive blog and Bleeding Heartland

My son just started kindergarten in the Des Moines public system. His school has a wonderful and caring staff, and he is having a great time, as he did in the pre-school program there. Unfortunately, like almost all public schools these days, this school relies on fundraising by the parents' group to pay for essential school supplies.

The parents' group decided years ago not to have our kids sell chocolate or wrapping paper or some other overpriced product to raise money, and I appreciate that.

They have opted this year to participate in the Tyson Project A+ label collection program, which is sponsored by Tyson Foods, Inc.
