Vilsack Appoints 48 People to USDA Positions

by: Jill Richardson

Mon Jan 26, 2009 at 11:00:00 AM PST

As speculation abounds about Vilsack's choice of a USDA Deputy Secretary, he has meanwhile chosen just about everybody else who will join him at the USDA. Currently, you'll notice that most appointees (listed below) have the word "Acting" in their title. In other words - they are doing the job right now until they are either officially appointed or replaced.

Also, Secretary Vilsack announced the appointments of his Chief of Staff, John Norris, and his Deputy Chief of Staff, Carole Jett (who recently served on Obama's transition team). He also chose David Lazarus (another member of Obama's transition team) as a special assistant.

Norris was previously a major player in the Iowa Democratic Party and chaired the Iowa Utilities Board. He was Vilsack's Chief of Staff while Vilsack was Governor of Iowa. Jett formerly worked at USDA in the National Resources Conservation Service. Lazarus was an aide to Sen. Dick Durbin before working on the Obama campaign.

Jill Richardson :: Vilsack Appoints 48 People to USDA Positions

who are all these "acting" people? (4.00 / 2)
Are those Bush administration holdovers who are continuing in the jobs until Vilsack gets his own people in?

Or are they Vilsack people who just haven't formally signed contracts for the positions?

I don't know... I haven't gotten that far yet. (4.00 / 2)
No idea, to be honest. It was quite a task putting THIS together, separating them into mission areas and adding names and descriptions of what they actually DO. I'm not sure if I want to dive into figuring out who they are, or if I'm just too lazy and I'll wait until they are permanently announced.

Don't blame you... (4.00 / 1)
I didn't feel like diving into the pdf file myself.

That is an amazing amount of work though, Jill!

Thank you!!!

Good Job! (0.00 / 0)
Well, that changes is not new to me anymore. To maintain the peace in order, is really a must.  But aside from that fascinating news, are you familiar with the Tony Nominees 2009? The Tony Nominees for 2009 are in, and the Tony Nominees 2009 are, just like any year, equally surprising and not surprising.  The highest profile nominee for Best Musical is Billy Elliot, the musical repackaging of the 2000 film of the same name.  The play revolves around a 12 year old boy who takes up ballet, at the initial protest of his rough around the edges coal mining father.  It will cost more than a payday loan to go.  Among the Best Actor noms, are James Gandolfini of Sopranos' fame and Raul Esparza in Speed the Plow, the play Jeremy Piven controversially left.  Some would get cash advances to go, but better to watch the Tony Nominees 2009 on TV.
