USDA Finds a 16% Increase in Farmers Markets!

Tomorrow, the USDA is releasing its findings about the growth in farmers markets in the U.S. Among the findings that will be released are the following statistics:

Top States with the Most Farmers Markets:

1. California (580)
2. New York (461)
3. Illinois (286)
4. Michigan (271)
5. Iowa (229)
6. Massachusetts (227)
7. Ohio (213)
8. Wisconsin (204)
9. Pennsylvania (203)
10. North Carolina (182)

States With the Most Market Growth From 2009-2010 (By Percent)

1. Missouri (Up 77%)
2. Minnesota (Up 61%)
3. Idaho (Up 60%)
3. Michigan (Up 60%)
5. Indiana (Up 47%)
6. South Dakota (Up 46%)
7. Arkansas (Up 41%)
8. Washington (Up 37%)
9. Ohio (Up 36%)
10. Oklahoma (Up 31%)

And... of the 6132 markets in the U.S., 886 are open in the off-season (between November and March). Off-season markets operate in 47 states and in D.C.
