An E. coli Vaccine? (with poll)

Will we see an E. coli vaccine for cows in the near future? Looks like it's a possibility, if the research going on at Montana State University (with participation from the USDA) is successful.

While any technology that can prevent human sickness and death from E. coli is a good thing, this looks to me like a case of "there was an old woman who swallowed a fly." The simple way to reduce E. coli is to feed cows grass during the last few days before slaughter. To keep fecal matter out of the meat, we could keep the cows in more sanitary conditions so they do not get so much manure on their hides and slow down the line speed in our slaughterhouses so the workers make less mistakes resulting in contamination.

I do enjoy a little beef now and then. (4.00 / 3)
Sometimes nothing else will meet the protein craving.

Call me paranoid, but the moment I see the word "vaccine" I think, "Nope." It seems clear to me that Eat Better, Eat Less should be a motto all Americans adopt, and then the cost of grass-fed beef would be manageable because we'd only eat maybe four ounces of the stuff a couple of times a month.

Then, no vaccine needed.

Voted "other"... (4.00 / 2)
Because I agree with pretty much all of the poll choices.  Don't eat meat myself, but don't begrudge others their decision to do so.  Especially if they're eating grass-fed from a local rancher.

And I like tofu, as well.

.................

Just felt I had to make that known, not really sure exactly why though...
