Coca-Cola With Vitamins? We Don't Buy It

Nothing makes me happier than seeing this headline: FDA Bursts Bubble on Diet Coke Plus Nutrient Content Claim. Long story short? The FDA says Coca-Cola cannot use the word "Plus" as a health claim because it's a carbonated beverage. Apparently the FDA looks down its nose at fortified "snack foods such as carbonated beverages." Thank goodness! I quite agree! My favorite part of the letter the FDA sent Coca-Cola is this:

You should take prompt action to correct these violations. Please respond to this letter within 15 days from receipt with the actions you plan to take in response to this letter, including an explanation of each step being taken to correct the current violations and prevent similar violations. Include any documentation necessary to show that correction has been achieved.

Ha! And if that ain't enough, CSPI is going after Coca-Cola with a class action suit for their fraudulent health claims on Vitamin Water. In their words: "vitamins + water + sugar + hype = soda - bubbles."

Let's not forger the incident that actually happened in the UK some (4.00 / 2)
years ago, when coca-cola bottled water and put it for sale as mineral water! Trouble was that in fact it was plain tap water, got found out, had to recall every single bottle (and issue a refund) and stop "producing". Ouch! The had to cough up some real dough to pacify the authorities if I remember well.

Sic Transit Gloria Locavore!

they aren't the only ones (4.00 / 1)
who did that. A friend of mine settled a lawsuit against another bottled water company for their "spring water" that also happened to have a pretty outrageous amt of bacteria in it, if I remember right.

I have a brother (4.00 / 3)
who drinks diet Pepsi constantly and always struggles with his weight. Somewhere I heard that diet sodas stimulate your appetite and don't help at all with weight loss. Anyone know of solid research on this?

I can't stand diet drinks. I mostly stopped drinking pop years ago, but if I am going to have a ginger ale or root beer a few times a year, I'll just have the regular kind.

I've heard the same thing (4.00 / 2)
but don't know the answer. Why not ask on Marion Nestle's blog? She's a good, reliable source for info like that.

Diet Pepsi is full of additives, should not be drunk at all. (4.00 / 2)
