ACTION: Should HFCS Be Relabeled "Corn Sugar"?

The Corn Refiners Association, no doubt upset by the consumer backlash against high fructose corn syrup, has a simple solution to their problem. They want to rename HFCS "corn sugar." That way, all of those silly consumers will read the label, see no HFCS, and they won't know that they are eating HFCS even though they don't want to.

This is, of course, outrageous, as it only serves to confuse people and to take away their ability to choose what foods they put in their bodies. If you want to make a comment to the FDA (which I hear is going to begin reviewing the comments soon), go here. If the link does not work, the docket ID to search on is FDA-2010-P-0491-0001.

It's actually sort of funny (4.00 / 3)
What's that word, chutzpah right?

A government that can't do anything for the consumer label wise and passes laws so states are regulated from posting life saving warning labels, will now be hearing about the pain and suffering of the corn lobby.

It's a free market except where the corn lobby is concerned. They have already placed high tariffs on imported cane sugar to offset the cost of the chemical process. Now all they want is the hint of chemical process removed and a chance to be even more dishonest about the nature of their product.

I don't think the will have much trouble. Politics American style.

I HATE their tv ads (4.00 / 3)
I often see them when I'm exercising, because sometimes I watch the Food Network. I hate that guy saying how he was concerned about what his daughter was eating, so he researched the issue and learned from "medical experts" that whether it's "corn sugar" or a different kind of sugar, it's all the same to your body. LIAR!

Tell me about it... (4.00 / 3)
Those commercials also had to have set the record for like, "most annoying advertising tactics stuffed into a 30-second spot", right?

Sunny fields, cute kids, happy dogs, family picnics...
