All the buzz today (food-wise, at least) is about Michael Pollan on NPR, talking about GMOs.

I dropped off a comment in Open Thread about that (4.00 / 3)
The quote of the talk to explain recent government approval of certain genetically modified foods and questions as to why those foods still don't require a GMO label on the package was;

"On this issue both political parties are on the same side, Monsanto's side."

Another Dennis Kucinich "lone wolf" story. (4.00 / 4)
That was what I heard, 3 0r 4 hundred thousand letters and Dennis Kucinich sounded like the only elected official who can read.

I suppose the only solution is bribery (4.00 / 2)
3 or 4 hundred thousand dollars to select congresscritter's campaign coffers.

Drop in the bucket, unfortunately... (4.00 / 1)
The real solution is public campaign financing, but hell if we couldn't even renew our puny citywide system here in friggin' Portland of all places last year...

Sigh.

it's the truth (4.00 / 3)
apparently they are all so surrounded by biotech lobbyists that they just dismiss whatever we say about it and assume we don't know what's good for us.

"I can understand someone from Iowa promoting corn and soy, but we are not feeding the world, we are feeding animals and soft drink companies." - Jim Goodman

Double whammy... (4.00 / 2)
The whole issue - they can play to Democrats by claiming to stand for so-called 'science' and 'progress'; and well of course they can buy the Republicans off from the Big Business angle.

Is there another issue / industry out there so easily adaptable for lobbyists to play to both 'sides'?

Short new German documentary (4.00 / 3)
with English subtitles. Shows GMOs imported from Argentina for animal feed and effects of Roundup causing birth defects, etc. in Argentina.

can't hear (4.00 / 3)
So not only can politicians not read, they cannot hear because they are paid not to do so. "Monsanto says not", end of story.

This is precisely what Obama is pushing.
