The World Food Crisis
This was the opening session, and it was sold out before any of the others (which means I couldn't get tickets). Panelists were Vandana Shiva, Raj Patel, Corby Kummer, and moderator Michael Pollan.
Building a New Food System: Policy and Planning
I loved this session. Marion Nestle was on the panel and she was the single biggest reason why I called in sick to work so I could fly to San Francisco a day early. Other panelists were AG Kawamura, Andrew Kimbrell, Paula Jones (not THAT Paula Jones), and moderator Timothy LaSalle.
Re-Localizing Food
This was the 2nd panel I attended and it kind of builds off of the one before it. The superstars of this panel were Winona LaDuke, Dan Barber (Blue Hill Restaurant), Gary Nabhan, and Michael Pollan.
A New Fair Food System
This panel was about labor and human rights. The panelists expose the abject poverty, abuse, and slavery going on in America today. Panelists are Lucas Benitz and Greg Asbed, Jose Padilla, Agustin Ramirez, Maricela Morales, and moderator Eric Schlosser.
Climate Change and Food
Terrific discussion about food and climate change. Panelists talk about a vision of building an economy based on knowledge and innovation instead of the current pollution-based economy. Anna Lappé also gives insight on what the "other side" is up to as we all gear up for climate change. Panelists are Anna Lappé, Carl Pope (Sierra Club), Patrick Holden, Ari Bernstein, and moderator Mark Hertsgaard.
Edible Education
Panelists were Alice Waters, Tony Recasner, Van Jones, Craig McNamara, Josh Viertel, and moderator Katrina Heron.
Closing Session
This was the star-studded super-awesome sold-out session that EVERYONE went to (except me). But I hear it was great. Panelists include Alice Waters, Carlo Petrini, Vandana Shiva, Eric Schlosser, Wendell Berry, and Michael Pollan. Moderated by Corby Kummer. |
