The food safety bill is on the floor of the Senate now. They've already voted for cloture, which means that nobody is filibustering this bill. The cloture vote was 74 to 25 and you can see it here.

I will post updates as they occur.

looks like the Senate's taking (4.00 / 2)
a little siesta. No news yet. Will be more later. C-SPAN is going to begin airing the Senate live at 4pm EST.

Murkowski (4.00 / 2)
Hee, Not Voting = Lisa Murkowski, wending her way Alaska-ward.

Voting... (4.00 / 2)
Feingold.  For one of the last times.

:/

Re: Alaska - it's hilarious now watching GI Joe Beard Dude flail about helplessly and aimlessly, suing anybody and everybody in sight, after he just lost to a write-in campaign!

(cue Nelson laugh from The Simpsons...)

Hopefully he can get a refund on those curtains he was looking at for "his" Senate office in DC a few months ago, eh?

Heh.

Cloture vote... (4.00 / 2)
It's cute watching Ben Nelson throw his lot in with Jim DeMint, thinking it somehow won't earn him retirement in two years anyways.

Any odds out there on his becoming 2012's Blanche Lincoln? I think Vegas took that one off the board weeks ago, heh...

Any news? (0.00 / 0)
Just turned on C-SPAN 2 right now.  I see my old homey Bobby Menendez (D-NJ) is speaking right now...

;)

Gonna watch for a bit.

Speaking... (0.00 / 0)
...on Pickford right now.

Pigford? nt (4.00 / 1)

DUDE. WTF. (4.00 / 1)
They are talking food safety, I THINK, and Feinstein is making a floor speech about her team winning the World Series.

OK now she's talking (4.00 / 1)
about BPA. She's being blocked from adding her amendment and so she's making a speech about why we should ban it. Good on her. She's forgiven for the baseball thing.

She has... (0.00 / 0)
...really cool charts, and it's fascinating watching her talk while some invisible hand reaches up and changes them every minute or so.

This is mesmerizing to watch.

;)

"Disembodied"... (0.00 / 0)
Disembodied is what I mean, actually.  Not invisible.  We can see the hand.  Just not its body...

I love Dianne Feinstein right now... (0.00 / 0)
Never thought I'd say that.  Heh.

Come on, Jeff!  Ron!  Take this up too, youze guys!

"Bipartisan compromise"... (0.00 / 0)
Ha, how perfect is that?  We know BPA is deadly.  We know we shouldn't be using it anymore.  So...

The "compromise" is a proposed ban just in baby bottles and sippy cups.  And whoops, what do ya know?  Even that can't pass.

Wonderful.

[ Parent ]
Boy... (0.00 / 0)
Let's hear it for "moderates" and for "compromise"!

(rolling eyes...)

[ Parent ]
Yes (0.00 / 0)
and let's hear it for 'my way or the high way' extremists like the FDA which put out a press statement saying that you have no right to put the foods you deem appropriate into your body, nor do you have an inherant right to said foods.

All bow to the most powerful and wise FDA, because don'tcha know, it's just the gov'ment looking out for you.

We're from the government and we're here to help and all that.

Normal people scare me.... But not as much as I scare them.

[ Parent ]
Great minds and all that... (0.00 / 0)
Ha!

I'm watching it on C-SPAN 2.  She also mentioned something about "triple plays" being commonly turned by the team, which I highly doubt.  I think maybe one or two triple plays happen a year in all of baseball, [T]op[p]s*?

I doubt the veracity of her claim.

;)

Yeah, the BPA stuff now is nice though...

*Old baseball card collector joke, heh

[ Parent ]
Dianne Feinstein... (0.00 / 0)
...talking about BPA right now.  Nice!

Quorum Call... (0.00 / 0)
"Waiting for Senators to Speak"...

Must. Not. Make. Ten. Easy. Jokes.
