It's 51.8% to 48.2% with 82.2% of precincts reporting and the Arkansas Senate primary race has been called for Blanche Lincoln. The bad news is that Halter lost and now Blanche will lose to a Republican in November. The good news is that after she loses to a Republican in November, she won't be Chair of the Senate Ag Committee anymore.

Gha! (thanks, Ria...)

Not the news I was hoping to come back home to.

:/

Oh well, Halter probably would have lost in November, too.  So there's that.

I know :( (4.00 / 2)
As of the last I heard, people were saying she was 4 points behind in the polls.

One less uphill battle (4.00 / 2)
I thought Halter would win, but he was going against the entire Dem establishment plus wildcards like the Chamber of Commerce (who, as Kos predicts, will probably give exactly zero dollars to Lincoln in the general election).

Another small bright spot in the Halter loss is that it's one less uphill battle to fight -- the odds are very long for a Dem to hold that seat -- and so efforts and money can be focused on more winnable races. Although I would have donated to Halter, I'm not giving a cent to Lincoln and won't give anything to the DSCC unless they pledge not to help Lincoln (highly unlikely).

If my memory is correct, the next in line for the Ag Committee is Stabenow from Michigan, a state with a fair amount of commodity crops and CAFOs, but also a thriving specialty crop industry (berries, cherries, a reviving local scene, and the ever-evolving urban farm scene in Detroit), so perhaps she will be a great committee chair.
