school meal calories (4.00 / 2)
I hope everyone reads what I dug up about IOM recommendations for calories in school meals. It absolutely floored me.

Speaking of pests (4.00 / 3)
with reference to Jill's concern about what are probably diamond moths (cabbage butterflies), I just moved everything but the onions and leeks out of the greenhouse into the low tunnels today.

LLLLLETSSSS GET READY TO RUMMMMMMMBLE!

I was going to put out beer traps for slugs today in the tunnels, but I forgot to buy beer. Imagine, me forgetting to buy beer! Probably because I bought a box of wine instead. ;-P

Normal people scare me.... But not as much as I scare them.

forgetting to buy beer (4.00 / 2)
That's OK, I've been forgetting to buy Coke ever since someone pointed out that it might be a good toilet bowl cleaner. I swear, I'll try to remember to buy some tonight.

I think it's also good for rust removal (4.00 / 3)
or some such thing YUM!

[ Parent ]
I bought some Coke (4.00 / 2)
I wanted my toilet bowl cleaner to be purely chemicals, nothing food-like, so I bought a 2-liter bottle of diet caffeine-free Coke. I also bought a rubber ball (a toy for dogs) that I hope to use to plug the drain so liquid level rises in the bowl. I'll begin the experiment before going to bed.

Count, I would like to hear how the Coke as toilet (4.00 / 3)
bowl cleaner experiment goes. I'm intrigued with the thought that finally there might be a good use for Coca-Cola. I am curious to know why you chose a Coke that is diet and caffeine-free.

Hey, nycstray, is this moving weekend? (4.00 / 3)
And, will you still be posting around the blogosphere as "nycstray" or adopting a new moniker to reflect your new geographic reality?

Good luck with the move. And Welcome to the West Coast.

Be on your coast on (4.00 / 2)
Thursday night. Oy. What a PITA x-country moving is!! At least I'll have a garden to relax in when it's over, and a HOUSE and a STUDIO and a CABIN! :)

Not sure what to do about who I'll be after the move. If I change it, it will still have "stray" in it I suspect. . .

Yes but you forget to buy Coke for a different reason than I for got to buy beer (4.00 / 2)
I usually drink a lot of beer every day, but recently have switched to wine. Hot days don't help keep the beer cold. Sometimes I have room in the outdoor fridge, but lately it's been full of eggs, and here in a few weeks it'll be full of CSA shares, so as the weather warms up, I switch to drinking a beverage that holds up to room temps better.

Me forgetting to buy beer's kind of like a baker forgetting to buy flour.....

Normal people scare me.... But not as much as I scare them.

Use Denture Cleaner (4.00 / 2)
on your toilet bowls. Makes 'em nice and sparkly. Use Coke to remove paint and rust. Use Diet Coke and Mentos to make a dramatic display.

Outstanding! nt (4.00 / 2)

it was good Italian wine, say some Chianti, maybe?

I have a hard time drinking red wines (4.00 / 2)
they give me heart burn so bad I have to chase them with a Tums. The only exception is Franzia's Fruity Red Sangria, but I like that for making mixed/blended drinks and cordials. The cordials have a lot of simple syrup and/or honey in them.

For me, wines that aren't too dry are better. Even very high priced dry wines give me heart burn bad. My dad's wine maker friend has a Syrah that is wonderful. Rich and smokey, and sells in the mid $20s by the bottle. I can only drink about a glass of it, and then only very slowly, or I get heart burn. Of course, it's so rich that I couldn't drink it very heavily anyway. Kind of like the difference between eating a heavy meal vs a light salad.

I usually buy what ever box wine is on sale, bein' as how I'm broke most of the time, and those wines are more of the 'light salad' variety.

Normal people scare me.... But not as much as I scare them.

red wines give me headaches (4.00 / 2)
and I'm currently shitfaced after spending all day outside with a chain saw. I downed 3 glasses of Sauvignon Blanc; Frontera from Chile. It's a really good buy at 9.99 for 1.5 liters.

But the reason I am shit faced is reading that John Lewis was called the N word and Barney Frank a fag. By some tea baggers who are against HC reform

My friend Mary is outside finishing up and we are going to eat dinner I cooked and drink more wine and watch a movie..

[ Parent ]
Chin up and cheer up. (4.00 / 1)
Both those guys have been through worse, perhaps Lewis especially, and they might accept it as badges of honor.

[ Parent ]
well my friend Mary & I (4.00 / 2)
drank more and watched Rocky Horror Picture Show.We had a great dinner. I made meat balls from local beef. I don't make spaghetti sauce anymore because I am not buying canned tomatoes. AND I discovered that Trader Joes carries brown rice pasta that's pretty good. And I bought the Trader Joes mint choc chip ice cream which doesn't use rgbh!

Far as John Lewis and Barney Frank. Here's what Cyburn said
about the taunts...
The No. 3 Democrat in the House, Representative James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, said, "I heard people saying things today that I have not heard since March 15, 1960, when I was marching to try to get off the back of the bus."

[ Parent ]
Hehe (4.00 / 2)
I got halfway shitfaced drinking cheap beer and planting veggie plugs. I finally remembered to get the beer, drank part of it, and didn't get around to actually installing the beer traps. I vow that I shall do this in the morning.

I got 300 plugs in the ground, only 1,500 to go....

Normal people scare me.... But not as much as I scare them.

Isn't Rigutto (4.00 / 1)
a Scandanavian name?

OK, just kidding.
