There's a Feeling I Get When I Look to the West

And My Spirit is Crying for Leaving.

Eddie C :: Morning Moonbeams
Last night New York City had a very cloudy sky but the full moon still had a presence in the reflection of the Hudson River, just a glimmer of brightness. When I woke up way to early the clouds were beginning to break up as false dawn approached.

The sky began to brighten.

Then brighten some more.

The sky clears up completely.

For a close up view.

Meanwhile back in the east.

As the wolf moon is the brightest.

This is starting to look like a beautiful New York City day.

A little more light from the sun.

And the moon begins to fade, gone before it sets.

Good morning from New York.

It is shaping up to be a real fine Sunday here in the Big Apple.

I hope it is the same where you are.

I think I can make out... (4.00 / 4)
Englewood over those cliffs, if I close one eye and squint the other just right!

;-P

Used to be one my favorite work sites were the places up in Tenafly and Bergenfield, because when I was up there around midday I could always grab a sandwich downtown and then sneak over and take a lunch break at that park there behind the cliffs, just off the Palisades Parkway.  Good times.  Great pics!

Actually that is Alpine (4.00 / 4)
P-Diddy,  Mary J Blige, Jay Z, Beyonce, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock are waving to you.

And is whose that at the lookout?  Brittany Spears is waving too.

Interesting sites in Alpine... (4.00 / 4)
There's a new-ish housing development (rolling eyes) up there in Alpine, Rio Vista, built on the old sprawling estate from the early 1900's of Manuel Rionda, an old wealthy sugar cane plantation owner from Cuba.

It's built around an old 60-foot tall or so observation tower (the only remaining piece of the original estate), which is now boarded up but still on a public street (The Esplanade).  Gem of a building.

I used to have regular work up in Northvale, and at a Volvo plant in I think Rockleigh.  Since commercial vehicles aren't allowed on the Palisades Parkway, I had to take 9W up there.  Beautiful drive, especially in Fall.

Didn't Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown live up there, too?

I will give you an example of how race affects my life. I live in a place called Alpine, New Jersey. Live in Alpine, New Jersey, right? My house costs millions of dollars. [some whistles and cheers from the audience] Don't hate the player, hate the game.

In my neighborhood, there are four black people. Hundreds of houses, four black people. Who are these black people? Well, there's me, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and Eddie Murphy. Only black people in the whole neighborhood. So let's break it down, let's break it down: me, I'm a decent comedian. I'm a'ight. [applause] Mary J. Blige, one of the greatest R&B singers to ever walk the Earth. Jay-Z, one of the greatest rappers to ever live. Eddie Murphy, one of the funniest actors to ever, ever do it.

Do you know what the white man who lives next door to me does for a living? He's a fucking dentist! He ain't the best dentist in the world...he ain't going to the dental hall of fame...he don't get plaques for getting rid of plaque. He's just a yank-your-tooth-out dentist. See, the black man gotta fly to get to somethin' the white man can walk to.

Ha, I found it! (4.00 / 3)
You can see it clear as day on Google Maps satellite view, at the roundabout just before the two streets meet.

Intersection of The Esplanade & Stone Tower Drive, Alpine, New Jersey.

You've never seen a New York sunset?

Or the crust of the rye plant (4.00 / 2)
One of the most amazing stories about naturally-occurring alkaloids in fungi concerns ergot (Claviceps purpurea), a fungus that infects grains of rye and related grasses. One of the psychoactive components of ergot fungus is the alkaloid ergine (d-lysergic acid amide), better known as natural LSD. The more potent synthetic LSD, (d-lysergic acid diethylamide), also known as LSD 25, is one of the most powerful psychoactive drugs known. LSD 25 was originally synthesized from natural pshchoactive alkaloids in ergot. According to Lewis and Lewis (1977), it is 4,000 times more powerful than mescaline. Natural LSD (ergine) is also found in the seeds of two species of Mexican morning glory vines which are still ingested by native Indians in an important medicinal and religious ritual.

Diving... (4.00 / 3)
Diving Canada Goose, maybe?

Of course, I'm probably wrong.  I'm obviously no ornithologist...

Hi, just got back (4.00 / 4)
Those are the not to exotic rock doves swooping in front of my window.

As to how I did that to the photos above, in the photographic program I use for cropping, balancing and what not you can isolate areas of different gradients of light to balance it with other areas of the photo.

It's called Microsoft Digital Image Pro by the way. One day I had way too much time to kill and I isolated each area and then just messed with tint, hue, color temperature, shadows, just about every slider on the program until I was satisfied with each area.

Pretty trippin' don't ya think?

only wishes he could have done that.

Thank you (4.00 / 3)
You know I thought so little of it when I did these that when I shrank them from 4000x3000 pixels to 600x450 in Irfanview I did not save the original.

Gorgeous! (4.00 / 4)
Highly rec'd.

WOW, Eddie! (4.00 / 2)
I am so sorry I missed this when you posted it...I've been tooling around the Intertoobz tonight & thought, well, geez, I haven't been to lvl lately...and here you are with incredible wolf moon pics & some, yes, very trippy variations of other pics.

It's always wonderful to find your pics after work, even if I'm very late to the party.

BTW, if you get the kind of snowstorm that's predicted for here (& I hope they're wrong about how much snow we're supposed to get), I can't wait to see those pics, too.

LVL, (4.00 / 4)
the scintillating place to be, sometimes!
