Tool library coming to SE Portland... (4.00 / 1)
The new Southeast Portland Tool Library will be opening May 2010, and will be the fourth to open in our city (following the North Portland, Northeast Portland and the Hands On Greater Portland tool libraries).

Let's not stop until every neighborhood in America has one!

Article on Portland food carts... (4.00 / 2)
From Oregon Business magazine -

Even on the dreariest Portland winter days, hundreds of mobile food cart owners fire up gas stoves, chop vegetables, grind coffee beans and pump wastewater, united in a common goal: to sell enough food to make a profit.

They work inside refurbished Airstream trailers and modified school buses and on tricycles strapped with refrigerators. Some serve crepes, burrito bowls, soup or yakisoba. Others swaddle gyros, grilled cheese, waffles and fried pies in waxed paper.

They're feeding an increasingly hungry public. There are now 461 mobile carts registered in Multnomah County, a 25% increase since 2008.

Brings up this interesting fact -

Jon Kawaguchi, environmental health supervisor for Multnomah County, says food carts are required to operate under the same health and safety guidelines as restaurants, and receive inspections twice annually. Four classifications of "mobile units" determine other regulations, such as waste and water tank sizes and proximity to a restroom. As of November 2009, 57% of restaurant inspections resulted in critical violations, while 39% of mobile-unit inspections resulted in critical violations.

Nice article, worth a read...

Great grilled cheese cart, well (4.00 / 1)
a school bus actually, at NE Alberta and 11th. Nothing hits the spot on a cold rainy day like a grilled cheese sandwich (my current fave features gruyere) and a nice cup of tomato soup.

Been meaning to hit that one! (0.00 / 0)
Grilled Cheese Grill, I think it is...

Ah, yup!

Haven't been there yet, I don't find myself up on Alberta often.

But next time I'm up there, definitely gonna try a Jersey (heh) or a Southsider...

Beware grilled cheese. (4.00 / 2)
A while ago, I realized a very long time had passed since I had enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich, so I bought two pounds of cheese and some good bread. Exactly one week later, I had gained ten pounds. I don't know how a person can gain ten pounds from two pounds of cheese and a loaf of bread, but it happened. I knew it was happening at the time, but I couldn't stop myself - I would make one, and that would be so good I made another. By the time I finished the second one, I would be stuffed, and I know I'm gaining weight when that happens.

Took me 5 weeks to lose the weight.

LOL (4.00 / 3)
I do that with some things, like tomatoes and cucumbers in the summer. I do that with salad dressed with vinegar and oil, but in that case I think it's the vinegar that I'm pigging out on. I live for acidic foods! I used to drink vinegar straight out of the bottle when I was a kid.

Can we say "arrogant prick" -

"I've overcome a lot, more than probably one single individual can handle or bear," [Michael] Vick said. "You ask certain people to walk through my shoes, they probably couldn't do. Probably 95 percent of the people in this world because nobody had to endure what I've been through, situations I've been put in, situations I put myself in and decisions I have made, whether they have been good or bad."

Well, "95 percent of the people in this world" also wouldn't have run dogfighting rings, you dick.
