Dinner At Sea Rocket Bistro

Yesterday San Diego Food Not Lawns held a dinner at Sea Rocket Bistro, a new restaurant that specializes in local seafood. Unlike your average Slow Food event, this dinner was offered at an affordable set price of $20 for appetizers and an entree (dessert and drinks were extra). Sea Rocket Bistro was incredibly nice to us... they offered to prepare any food we grew ourselves in addition to their standard menu.

The meal started with fresh figs. Delicious! And I don't even usually like figs!

Next up, delicious ciabatta from a nearby bakery with honey butter and hummus:

Tomatoes, grown by a member of our group:

And the zucchini he grew:

(Fruits and veggies this fresh and delicious don't need a lot of preparation. They taste great already!)

Stuffed peppers:

Now, the entrees. I had a goat cheese and beet tart served with a side salad (notice the sungold cherry tomatoes in there... this chef knows how to win me over!!!):

Beet and Goat Cheese Tart topped with toasted walnuts and served with a side mixed green salad

Green Salad with dried figs, tomatoes, goat cheese, and pine nuts, topped with crispy fried shallots

The girl next to me, Joann, had a wild rice salad:

California-grown wild rice mixed with dried cherries, pine nuts and shredded carrots in a honey viniagrette-

I'm probably a lousy guest for Sea Rocket, since they specialize in seafood and I don't eat any. I also didn't get any pictures of the seafood dishes... partially because it was less interesting to me, but also because I didn't feel like doing gymnastics just to get a picture of somebody's food. But I did get a picture of the honey beer cake I had for dessert:

And, of course, coffee. In my opinion, all good meals must end with good coffee:

I've got a picture of our group too but I don't want to post pics of other people on the internet without their permission. All in all, a delicious dinner and a fun event!

Ouch! (4.00 / 2)
Just hit my head trying to get a closer look at the stuffing in the peppers, and the wild rice salad.

Smacked it right into the monitor, I did...
