In the past, I posted a list of the top spenders on lobbying for the first quarter of 2009. Here's a list of the top spenders for the third quarter of 2009. You'll notice that the Chamber of Commerce has really stepped up their spending.

Wow... (0.00 / 0)
Even the 100th on the list spent considerably more than $1 million in 3 months...

Imagine if all this money, or hell, even half of it, actually went towards doing good things?

"The essence of the independent mind lies not in what it thinks, but in how it thinks." - Christopher Hitchens

Pharmaceuticals (4.00 / 2)
Check out the pharmaceutical industry.  The trade association, Pharmaceutial Research and Manufcturers, is #5 on the list, spending $6.8 million in 3 months.  And then Pfizer ($5.4 million), Bayer ($2.45), GlazoSmithKline ($2.1), Eli Lilly ($2 million), Merck ($1.5) and Novartis ($1.4), all did their own lobbying on top of that.  Anyone feeling good about the prospects for a health care system that isn't controlled by Big Pharma?
