| David Lazarus is currently a senior advisor to the Secretary of Agriculture and he coordinates with the White House on food safety issues. Since his name has popped up a few times, I figured it's a good idea to learn more about him.
David J. Lazarus is originally from Highland Park, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Political Science, History, and International Studies-Global Security. It seems he went to DC straight out of college, beginning as a paid intern to Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) in 2004.
In 2005, he went to Sen. Dick Durbin's office as a Legislative Correspondent, later becoming a Legislative Assistant and a Senate Aide. In Durbin's office, he worked on telecommunications and technology policy, as well as food safety and consumer product safety issues. He was also the lead staffer on agriculture policy, including rural development, biofuels, conservation, and commodity support programs. He stayed with Durbin until early 2009.
He worked on Obama's campaign as the Rural Vote Deputy Director and later worked on Obama's transition team. Now he's under Vilsack at the USDA. |
