hmmm (4.00 / 2)
i would think it is NOT rude to take pictures of your food...in fact could/should be taken as a compliment to the chef!
(& if you're noticed i bet the mngr/chef will think you're writing a revue of their establishment & fall all over themselves to please you)
but then i'm really old school so what do i know....

come firefly-dreaming with me....

Thanks... (4.00 / 2)
That's kinda what I was thinking, but I can see how, under some circumstances (like the person standing on a chair mentioned in the piece), some other people in the restaurant might object, or at least find it a distraction...

I'm thinking there's also maybe an indoor / privacy kinda thing for other people who might potentially end up in the picture?  I mean, a restaurant is a public place... but being indoors, I'd think it's probably not "as public" as, say, a park or even a farmers' market, where you have to expect that you might end up in somebody's picture.  So that's why when I take mine I do it low to the table and quick, and make sure nobody else is in the shot.

That's why my restaurant food pics probably suck, lol.  See Eating Portland: Breakfast at Vita Cafe and Drinking New Jersey for just two examples of how terrible my restaurant food shots are...

I wonder if the fabulous asparagus from (4.00 / 1)
Michigan is making a comeback.

Of course you can disclose your national security clearance when challenged on taking pictures of beautiful food in a restaurant!

is such an incredible idea and what a great use of space it is.  I envy the residents of Seattle.  here in NJ the lawn nazi's would never allow it, unless of course you slipped some cash.....haha.  Stories like this make me wish they had 'zoning' parties at municipal buildings....maybe with a few thousand people outside screaming and shouting about outdated zoning and code laws, the powers that be might do more than reach for the next doughnut :)

You're in New Jersey?  I grew up there.  It's wonderful that so many of our politicians back there are still making us "proud", isn't it?

I have no connection with any of the 793 or so who were just arrested last week; but I was once a huge supporter of Joe Vas (as Perth Amboy mayor and back in his US House run to replace Menendez), who was indicted himself a couple months ago.

hanging head...

I used to occasionally bump into Jim McGreevey in a Woodbridge Quick Chek back in the late-90's as well, where he'd call out to me and a friend by name.  I'll always like Jim, though...

Anyways.

I'm kinda sorta half-considering (okay, maybe one-hundredth considering) moving back to Newark these days, and I think it would be really exciting to get in on the ground floor back there in the urban farming movement.

Besides Newark (let's take Brick City Urban Farms everywhere!), I'd say off hand that Asbury Park would be a fantastic place to begin... and from there, I can see making use of the massive empty lots in Camden, Trenton, the Bayway area of Elizabeth, Carteret, New Brunswick, Passaic, etc...

Heh, but then I wake up and realize that it's New Jersey, and the only thing anybody'll ever let grow there are detached suburban homes with (like you said) huge lawns.  Meh...
