End of July Garden Pictures

It's been a while since I shared garden pictures. We've been in a rebuilding stage after the deer striped a majority of the garden. I've been set back a few weeks on some things, tomatoes, strawberries, beans, swiss chard, eggplant and tomatillos. Some things are lost for the year, like blackberries, raspberries, boysenberries and grapes. The rest were left pretty much untouched citrus, peppers (bell, jalapeno, cayenne), basil, onions, beets, watermelon, and honeydew.

Right now I've been eating the basil, beets, swiss chard, cherry tomatoes, strawberries and green beans. I'm really hoping my watermelon and honeydew step up their game and start putting out melons.

I do not recall your location. We had a miserable wet June and early July here on the Connecticut shoreline. I have no pictures to share. We have not been hit with the tomato blight in our garden as many of our friends have been. Still, have had to prune the foliage mercilessly. Forget the green and wax beans. Great lettuce (mezclun and Thom Thumb), parsley, dill, potatoes, basil and squashes. Mildew all over the mint and oregano. Replanted beets 3 times with piss poor outcome. Fig and bay trees doing well. No fruit at all on the lemon tree (the latter all potted).

I envy your ability to grow artichokes.

It's good to see I'm not the only one with green tomatoes still. Actually I've been picking golden currants for a week or so now, but they're so small there's not much to them yet.

Regarding locavores as elitists - explain to me how supporting local business is elitist....
