Chip Kahn
Remember those Harry and Louise ads that so effectively killed health care reform during the Clinton era? He's the guy responsible for those. The Hill has ranked him as one of DC's top lobbyists for the past 9 years running.
Kahn got his start in politics by managing Newt Gingrich's campaigns back in 1974 and 1976. From 1980-1983, he worked at the Association of University Programs in Health Administration as the Director of the Office of Financial Management Education. He also worked on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant for Senator Dan Quayle and a Senior Health Policy Advisor to Sen. David Durengerger.
From 1986-1993, he worked on the House Ways & Means Subcommittee on Health as a minority health counsel. From there he jumped back over the the private sector, as Executive Vice President of the Health Insurance Association of America, where he ran the Harry and Louise ads in 1993-1994. He was rewarded for his work there with another government job, working as Staff Director to the House Ways & Means Subcommittee on Health from 1995-1998. And... then he took another turn through the revolving door, back to Health Insurance Association of America, this time as President, from 1998-2001. Then in 2001, he joined the Federation of American Hospitals, where he has stayed ever since.
