It looks like... (4.00 / 3)
It looks like you're moving to Portland, too!

Fwiw, you probably don't need to add the address for Powell's, lol.  Any of us from Juneau to Klamath Falls to Boise (and oh yeah, here in Portland) should have no trouble finding it...

;-P

That sounds like a lot of fun, and here's to hoping you can bulk it out even more!  Get out, see the country and all that.  Maybe even head up to Montreal, or Vancouver BC too! :)

"Intelligent discontent is the mainspring of civilization." - Eugene V. Debs

You're still trying to get to Vancouver, (4.00 / 3)
aren't you?

[ Parent ]
Ha! (4.00 / 3)
Yeah, no mystery there...

:)

Although my friend Eddie C, last time I saw him up in The Bronx a few months ago, suggested I actually look into Victoria, instead...

:)

a little logistics??? (4.00 / 3)
of course you can stay here...but Mr AB and I will see at my house and then on to Blue Marble..Anyone else in the Philadelphia area?

I am still trying to help out at the DFA table at Netroot Nation. I have a ride from here in Philly to Pittsburgh on the 12th or 13th. There is room in the car. Are u flying to NYC to Pittsburgh?

Again with the Portland. Powells..the BEST bookstore in the universe!!!!

Hey! (4.00 / 3)
Again with the Portland.

Nothing wrong with "the Portland"...

:)

I'm not in Phu-lef-eeya...

;-P

...but I do have deez faw youze all -

[ Parent ]
it is beautiful.. (4.00 / 4)
my daughter told me that Portland is also home to lots of anarchists?

[ Parent ]
Lol, yeah... (4.00 / 3)
Has she been here?

:)

I'm not one of them, but yeah - I live in the 'hood where a Starbucks was once firebombed a few years ago for being part of some "worldwide conspiracy"...

I don't get involved in any of that bullshit though, of course - because here in Inner SE, we also run those bastards out of business by completely avoiding them and supporting our local independent coffee shops instead.

"Intelligent discontent is the mainspring of civilization." - Eugene V. Debs

[ Parent ]
no she hasn't (4.00 / 4)
but she says at some point she wants to live there.

Speaking of coffee. The best here

[ Parent ]
Hee hee... (4.00 / 3)
Ah, but have you ever tried Ristretto Roasters, or Stumptown?

:)

Cup(s) is / are, of course, on me if you ever find yourself out this way...

:)

[ Parent ]
I've got a spot to stay in Philly (4.00 / 2)
thank goodness. So far I found places to crash w friends in Seattle, Portland, Philly, Lancaster, and NYC. I'm driving w/ a friend from NYC to Pittsburgh. Gonna be a LONG drive.

"I can understand someone from Iowa promoting corn and soy, but we are not feeding the world, we are feeding animals and soft drink companies." - Jim Goodman

[ Parent ]
Asheville NC would welcome you (4.00 / 4)
There is a wonderful local food movement here; Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project: http://www.asapconnections.org/ that would welcome you with open arms.

They just had their annual farm tour last weekend where anyone could visit the local farmers, learn about sustainable farming, ask questions and buy locally produced farm products.

Asheville is a FOODIE town that supports local farmers.

Youre not the first to suggest that (4.00 / 3)
and it's a fantastic idea. I'd need someone else to pay for my expenses though, that's the only catch. I'm stretching my budget and my publisher's budget as far as they go.

[ Parent ]
What is your thinking about doing radio, (4.00 / 4)
either in cities where you are doing a book event, or from the low-cost convenience of San Diego?

that's a great idea... (4.00 / 5)
Fresh Air on NPR is produced here in Philadelphia...

http://www.npr.org/templates/r...

[ Parent ]
I would LOVE it (4.00 / 4)
do you have any good radio connections?

"I can understand someone from Iowa promoting corn and soy, but we are not feeding the world, we are feeding animals and soft drink companies." - Jim Goodman

[ Parent ]
Have you contacted the people at (4.00 / 4)
KPOJ and 1190 KEX? They're at the same building. I think they're owned by the same person. KPOJ has a great morning show, and then there's Thom Hartman who's on from 9:00am - noon weekdays with his national show. He's also on the morning show in the 8 o'clock hour. The morning show runs from 6:00am - 9:00am

There's also KBOO in Portland. They're an FM station and have talk shows about local issues, and I've heard them talk about ag every once in a while.

Regarding locavores as elitists - explain to me how supporting local business is elitist....

[ Parent ]
Actually if you could send them a book that'd be great (4.00 / 4)
has the publisher made any available to send out to the media? Book tours are usually accompanied by books sent to the media.

They just had a fellow on one of the 'best of' segments this morning, who was on a book tour. During the interview the hosts mentioned how many books they get.

Regarding locavores as elitists - explain to me how supporting local business is elitist....

[ Parent ]
yeah I'll have to send 'em books (4.00 / 2)
I'm having a radio show host from San Diego talk to Thom Hartmann for me. They're friendly, so it'll go over better that way I think.

"I can understand someone from Iowa promoting corn and soy, but we are not feeding the world, we are feeding animals and soft drink companies." - Jim Goodman

[ Parent ]
That'd be too cool for words (4.00 / 2)
if you get on Thom's show! I love Thom's national show. He's to the left but he'a more balanced than most, and he's got so much experience in so many different areas that listening to him isn't just entertaining, it's educational. I usually listen to talk radio because I want to hear what the callers have to say, but with Thom, I listen because I want to hear what he has to say too.

Regarding locavores as elitists - explain to me how supporting local business is elitist....

[ Parent ]
I might.... (4.00 / 2)
years ago I did some personal growth work with a woman who I think is still the booker for Fresh Air...I'll try..and let u know...

[ Parent ]
maybe.. (4.00 / 2)
years ago I knew the Producer...of Fresh Air.. I just Facebooked her. I'll see if I get a response.

[ Parent ]
vermont book tour (4.00 / 4)
when and were will you be in Vermont, Jill?

no ideas yet! (4.00 / 3)
I need help!

"I can understand someone from Iowa promoting corn and soy, but we are not feeding the world, we are feeding animals and soft drink companies." - Jim Goodman

[ Parent ]
I'll be there in Des Moines! (4.00 / 4)
Didn't know you were coming to that conference--yay! Do you need a place to stay? We have a guest room.

I'll be at the conference with some of my buddies from 1000 Friends of Iowa.

I might just take you up on that guest room (4.00 / 4)
because yes I will need a place to stay. I am going to see if I can get a scholarship to the conference bc it's too expensive for me.

[ Parent ]
Are you set up on Skype (4.00 / 4)
so you can also virtual tour?

I hadn't thought about that (4.00 / 4)
but yes I am set up on Skype and it's a great idea.

"I can understand someone from Iowa promoting corn and soy, but we are not feeding the world, we are feeding animals and soft drink companies." - Jim Goodman

[ Parent ]
More and more people are using it for interviews (4.00 / 4)
so while you couldn't do actual signings, you could do more teebee! Perhaps some advance promo work before you hit the next city on your stop :) Local morning/evening shows etc. so people can know you'll be there and actual plan to go.
