Lotus in the Rain (4.00 / 5)

From today in the New York Botanical Garden.

Nice! (4.00 / 4)
It's still raining there, btw?  Yeeesh...

Hit about 98 here today.  It's surprisingly cool and comfortable in here right now, though - got the windows open and the ceiling fan on high.  The other day, not so much.  Think it was Tuesday, I just couldn't get it down under "hellishly hot" level, no matter what I tried...

There were heavy rain and spots of sunshine today (4.00 / 4)

Guess I should... (4.00 / 4)
start dinner soon!

Hmmm.  I think I'm just gonna dump some sweet onion and broccoli into a bowl of bulgur wheat, and call it good.

If I had peppers, corn and cranberry beans, I'd probably do some kind of chili thing - but gonna have to wait 3 weeks or so for that.

It's way past dinner here (4.00 / 4)

I took a fellow Kossack to Frankie And Johnnie's Pine Tavern tonight.

Now that's what I call eating. I had the Ragu!

Okay, if I'm there... (4.00 / 3)
I'm starting off with the Eggplant Rollatini appetizer and the Endive Salad, and then doing the Penne Primavera (will the pasta be as good as Dominick's? :)) with the parmesan cream sauce and the potato croquettes.  And then grabbing an eggplant parm to go on the way out, because nobody here knows how to do them right.  Heh...

Damn, now I'm hungry again!  Not good.

Still owe you a dinner if / when you find yourself out this way.  Or hell, maybe next time I'm out that way.  If it's PDX, it'd be The Farm for local and seasonal, Ya Hala for Lebanese, Adobe Rose for New Mexican, Vita for just damned good food and atmosphere, or Bete-Lukas for Ethiopian...

just a warning (4.00 / 2)
if you send me an email that says "come over and help me drink all of my homemade beer" - you can expect me over IMMEDIATELY so the beer better be cold :) Needless to say I had a lovely evening.

Ha! (4.00 / 1)
(rigging up homebrewing kit...)

Great link, thanks! (4.00 / 1)
I've gotta say, though - that "rotten soup" is a beautiful thing...

You cretin! (4.00 / 3)
Real beer lovers don't drink their beer cold... cellar temp is much more appropriate. :)

I wish I knew half what the flock of them know
Of where all the berries and other things grow,
Cranberries in bogs and raspberries on top
Of the boulder-strewn mountain, and when they will crop.

That's only for ales... (4.00 / 1)
Agreed on that, and I'd go one lower - room temp.  Stouts, too.

Everything else needs to be cold though, imo...

Let's ask Jill what she's drinking before we judge, please!

I just have a problem with people who want (4.00 / 2)
their beer so cold that it practically develops ice crystals. 45 degrees is about as low as it should ever go (some fruit beers being the exception), but most beers at best at around 50 degrees. So says Michael Jackson (no, not that one) and I tend to agree.
