  • Is Iron Paws sending me subliminal messages? He just sent me this article about a vegan woman denied her "ILVTOFU" license plate choice because it could be misinterpreted as I Love To F-U.

  • Alternet challenges us to be extreme locavores by foraging for our food.

  • Natasha Chart says they can't feed us oil forever. Yeah, but it sure looks like they are willing to try...

  • Paula Crossfield agrees with me that Bryant Terry's new book Vegan Soul Kitchen totally rocks!

  • I loooove Civil Eats posts on local food in various regions of the country. Check out this one on Southern sustainability about a blogger's trip to Georgia for their organics conference.

  • I got reeaaallly excited about this post entitled "future fruits" about heirloom apples in Madison, WI. My favorite apple grower in Madison is Ellen at Future Fruit Farm. Could it be that she was now famous on the Internets? Alas, it was not the case (although it's still an article worth reading). Looks like it's up to me to go back to Madison to give Ellen her 15 minutes of fame.

  • Ezra Klein writes about making tsimmes (and later gives an update). Ezra, can I recommend my family's recipe?

  • OK, that's it. Look at this mouthwatering picture. I AM going to make matzoh ball soup just as soon as I can find a vegetarian recipe for the stuff.

  • Philpott takes on Bittman over red snapper - one of the most endangered fishies out there, and one that Bittman is still, apparently, eating.

  • Why is this president different from all other presidents? It's not what you might think... Obama is holding a passover seder!

  • The lovely ladies of the Ethicurean are making compost.

  • Check out this really cool piece from Fooducate about Passover and Easter shopping trends.

How about instead (4.00 / 5)
I 8 TOFU?

or TOFU4ME?

(Reminds me of the Far Side cartoon that showed Godzilla driving a car down the road with a license plate that said I8NY)

I have succumbed to the Twitter craze. @Omir55

Well, I'll be damned! (4.00 / 4)
I read it that way at first, too!

a vegan woman denied her "ILVTOFU" license plate choice because it could be misinterpreted as I Love To F-U.

And I do eat tofu every once in a while!  Never claimed to love it, though...

:)

I enjoyed this piece from HuffPo -

When I speak, people invariably want to argue this point. They want their artificial sweetener. I often get comments like, "It's FDA approved." WARNING! WARNING! If the government has to "approve" something for consumption THERE IS A PROBLEM! It is simply approved until enough people die, than it will be unapproved.

Ouch!

my matzo balls and veggie soup (4.00 / 2)
were a huge hit last night. I made over 24 balls and have 3 left. and I had my cousin who was a professional chef. He said the seltzer really made the difference. That and the eggs were fresh.gathered by me the night before
matzo balls..
for about 8 balls..following recipe on box
1/2 matzo meal
2 eggs
1/4 oil
1/4 cup seltzer
I added  little fresh nutmeg to above...

put in fridge for at least 1/2 an hour...then add to boiling water and cook for an 1/2 hour. I cooked them earlier in the day and added to hot soup and served..

the soup was great too. Thai soup...I cooked a shit load of fresh veggies..carrots,parsnips,mushrooms ..and shredded lemngrass, and  fresh coriander. the mushrooms added a depth.after stock has cooked for a while and has been strained , I added fresh carrots and fresh parsnips and cooked til soft. Then froze. last night I also added a little of thai green curry paste found in a small jar in Whole foods..
