I don't know who is using Twitter under the name HiFrucCornSyrup... but that doesn't stop me from wanting to have a little bit of fun at their expense anyway. Want to help me out? Let's send lots of tweets @HiFrucCornSyrup with our opinions about HFCS.

Use this diary as an open thread.

High Fructose Corn Syrup is evil (4.00 / 3)
it's a soulless corporate wet dream. Privatized profits for nutrition-free cola pushers.. socialized costs in health care increases and ag subsidies. I can't believe one of our biggest industries is fake sugar fizzy water. Dumb Dumb Dumb.

If we could just get rid of the consumer. (4.00 / 1)

Blame the people for drinking it, not the company for making it.

I wrote a longer response (4.00 / 4)
but I pressed the back button.

I see what you're saying. Corporations have a fiduciary responsibility for profit, not to have souls. But I'm not about to just blame a child for drinking cokes. Or a store owner for consuming the product that allows him to make a living. Everyone takes partial blame.

The way we move forward is to provide information to stigmatize soda drinking as unhealthy (like we did with cigarettes, trans fats, msg, and lead) and to push for better access to fruits and vegetables, and clean drinking water at schools/offices. Other moves are legislation/regulation or maybe a surgeon general's warning on HFCS. In any case the corporations will be against us in those efforts. This may be blaming the cheetah for running but it's better than blaming the rabbit for getting eaten.
